Keranique Shampoo & Conditioner

In all honesty, I do not spend a huge amount of money on shampoo and conditioner.  I go through it so rapidly because of my long, thick hair, that I would literally feel like I was washing money down the drain.  I've had the opportunity to try a couple more expensive brands and I just don't think they've been worth the hype or higher price tag.  So here comes another contender, the Keranique Clean & Condition set, with a shampoo and conditioner designed to stimulate growth, cleanse and volumize hair.  Let's get a closer look.

The Scalp Stimulating Shampoo is designed for thinner hair as a way to remove build-up, protect, and smooth without adding extra weight.  The Volumizing Keratin Conditioner improves hair's body, strength, and manageability. Now to start off, my hair is by no means thin.  However, I find that with the use of hair serums and hair products in general, that build-up is inevitable and weighs my hair down even more.  It's difficult getting volume in my hair when it's so heavy with long layers.  I don't want my hair to look abnormally fluffy, but a little life and bounce could never hurt.

The description of these products is exactly what I'd want in a shampoo and conditioner.  I felt like the shampoo did a lot more cleansing at the root of my hair than most others I've tried.  My scalp felt better and, well, cleaner.  The shampoo definitely lived up to its claims by removing any excess build-up that's for sure.  For the conditioner, the directions say to allow it to sit for 1-2 minutes.  I had read that others experienced somewhat of a tingling sensation, but I didn't feel that after two minutes.  I let it sit a little longer, 3-4 minutes perhaps, and felt a bit of a cooling on my scalp.  It didn't hurt or bother me, it was just different.  My hair is particularly thick so if your hair is thinner, you may notice more of this cooling/tingling.  After using both products I can honestly say my hair has felt and looked more "lively" than it has in quite a while.  It's like someone noticing you have a bit more pep in your step!  I had a better time drying my hair and keeping my blow-out looking nice on its second day because there wasn't as much weighing it down.

Now I will tell you the one thing I did not care for - the smell.  Keep in mind this is personal preference and this just happens to be mine.  These products have the incredibly strong scent of menthol.  I just felt like I was covering myself in medicine whenever I used it and the scent filled my entire shower.  Is it the end of the world?  Of course not.  Will I finish the products?  Yes.  I just don't think I would want to spend so much on a product that smells this way.  If you don't mind the scent of menthol, you might just love it.  I may just have a particular sensitivity to this smell.  As someone who gravitates toward sweet, fresh scents, this just wasn't my cup of tea.

Overall, I'm a big fan of how these product work and the results I've seen in my hair.  I just wish they could offer an alternate fragrance that isn't so strong.  You can read more about the Keranique Clean & Condition set here!
