Coastal Scents Go Palette - Cairo

The Product

I received the Coastal Scents Cairo Palette in my first Boxycharm box back in September.  The Coastal Scents Go Palettes come in a variety of color combinations.  Cairo has a nice variety of neutral shades, with a good balance of both matte and shimmery shadows.  The list price for this palette is $12.95 but is currently on sale on the Coastal Scents website for only $8.95.

The Function

The shadows in this palette are extremely pigmented but can get very powdery and produce fallout.  I find that slowly building the color helps to alleviate this - especially when dealing with the darker shades.  I love the color selection for this palette but the one thing missing, in my opinion, is a more natural matte brow bone shade.  The two lightest shades in this palette are not ideal colors, at least for my skin tone.  I prefer to use them on the inner corner and use a separate shadow for under my brows.

The Style

The Go Palettes are compact, sturdy and perfect for your makeup bag.  The shadows themselves are small, so the palette gets quite messy after each use.  Fortunately, it's easy to wipe clean around each shadow since the palette is plastic.  One major plus for this palette is the generously sized mirror.  Many times if palettes come with mirrors they are too small or can distort your reflection (which none of us appreciate while applying makeup thank you very much).  This mirror is large enough to see your entire face up close in all its glory.

The Bottom Line

This was the first palette from Coastal Scents I've ever tried so I didn't know what to expect when I received it in my Boxycharm.  I was thrilled to receive a full-size palette, but skeptical about the quality.  After trying it out, I was pleasantly surprised by this palette and was excited when the brand was featured in yet another Boxycharm box in December.  I can't say this is my #1 neutral palette, but it is certainly a keeper and will come in handy for travel.  I will definitely be looking into trying more from Coastal Scents in the future!
